I looked at several ipod mini cases before deciding to buy this one. I came to a few conclusions when looking for a case that might be helpful to others:
1. I did not want a skin. Almost all skins are translucent rubber (not transparent). What's the good of getting a colorful ipod mini if you're going to dull or mask it? Also, the skins do not cover the screen or click wheel, which means you'll still need to toggle the hold switch that is now harder to reach because it's inset in the rubber.
2. I considered the Eforcity's Apple iPod Mini Aluminum Hard Case because it has an inner rubber lining. And I like aluminum (even though it hides the ipod color), but this was just an ipod coffin. It had no cut outs for screen or wheel.
3. I also considered the RhinoSkin iPod Mini Aluminum Hard Case and the Metal Deluxe Case for Apple iPod mini. These are aluminum cases with cut outs, which leaves the screen and wheel exposed. Good for viewing and accessibility, but bad for scratches, dirt and toggling the hold switch.
I ultimately got the Speck Mini FlipStand because:
Pros:
-Translucent enclosure means no screen cut out is necessary. No need for pda protectors to prevent the screen from scratches.
-Flipstand exposes the wheel only when necessary. I also don't need to set the hold switch because of accidental wheel movements.
-Does not hide the ipod mini's design in any way. In fact, the look is consistent with Apple's clear plastic design for their mice, keyboards, etc.
Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks:
Cons:
-No rubber cushioning (but that would hide the ipod)
-The belt clip looks like it might break easily. It also can't swivel.
I have no regrets about getting this case. I think it looks great and is extremely functional.
